The Word
The purpose of this project was to make a foldout booklet that reveals a message as it is unfolded. The phrase I chose to use is John 1:1, from the Bible. The verse describes the Word as being "in the beginning". This is referring to Jesus Christ being the creator of the world. Jesus is often metaphorically referred to a lion, which I chose to use as a visual. Click here to see my process.
In the beginning... This is the start of the Gospel of John, which speaks of Jesus's life, miracles, death, and resurrection from the dead. The Gospel teaches that all who repent of their sins and believe that Jesus Christ is Lord can and will be saved from eternal condemnation. They will instead have eternal life with God in Heaven.
was the... The illustration above shows the sun and earth, and is reminiscent of the Biblical story of creation. The words are both within similar circles.
WORD. The word "WORD" is shown in front of a picture of a lion, with clouds peeking through to add depth and overall cohesion.
WORD. "...and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
The metaphors I used in this project were meant to create intrigue as to what "the beginning" was. When was it? How did we get here? This is a Biblical response to these questions that every human has.
